VCAT Advocacy

Back to Projects

Since January 2016, our Director Neil Cooney has researched and prepared submissions for over 170 VCAT cases, typically under the engagement of Planning Lawyer, Chris Mackenzie of Planning Appeals Pty Ltd.

Submissions include representation for Council’s, permit applicants and objectors.

Working on a wide range of case types, across multiple Councils in Victoria, ensures we have an excellent understanding of:

  • The VCAT process,
  • Probable success,
  • How policy is challenged and interpreted,
  • How to approach design,
  • How to influence decision makers,
  • The varying levels of complexity surrounding policy across different municipalities.

Research and submissions relate to cases of a wide variety, including:

  • Dual occupancy developments
  • Heritage affected development
  • Medium density residential development
  • High density mixed use development
  • Vegetation removal
  • Policy interpretation, including questions of law
  • Car parking reduction / traffic impact
  • Sustainable design
